Blank Bottle
Blankbottle Winery, led by the audacious winemaker Pieter Walser, defies convention in the heart of the Western Cape near Somerset West. With no vineyards of its own and no tasting room, Blankbottle thrives as an adventurous spirit that sources grapes from around 60 small vineyards, choosing each year’s lineup based on character, not consistency.
Blankbottle first shed its labels, both literally and figuratively, to challenge assumptions. When a customer rejected a wine simply because it was Shiraz, Pieter poured the label-less wine anyway, and it became a bestseller. Ever since, Blankbottle has embraced ambiguity, emphasising experience over expectation.
Blankbottle is not just a winery, it’s a canvas for curiosity. Each limited-edition bottling invites you into Pieter’s world of stories, serendipity, and sensory exploration. For the wine collector who seeks narrative as much as nuance, Blankbottle delivers a “journey in a bottle.”
