Wilderness - Bisate Reserve

Perched just outside Volcanoes National Park in northwest Rwanda, Wilderness Bisate Reserve is an ultra-private retreat set among steep, forested slopes facing the Virunga volcanoes, Bisoke, Karisimbi, and Mikeno. From your suite, you’ll enjoy sweeping, panoramic views of these mist-draped giants and the emerald rainforest below.

As the perfect base for mountain gorilla trekking, the Reserve delivers rare primate encounters and privileged access. Beyond that, activities include golden monkey treks, guided nature walks, hikes to Dian Fossey’s grave, tree-planting in the on-site nursery, and cultural visits to local communities. For the truly adventurous, a private gorilla trek is also available.

This is conservation-first hospitality. Wilderness Bisate Reserve is a platform for reforestation, supported by a thriving tree nursery that helps restore Rwanda’s forest ecosystem. Guests are invited to contribute through planting saplings and learning about region-wide ecological rehabilitation.

Dining is rooted in place: seasonal, health-conscious cuisine, often sourced from the on-site vegetable garden and local producers. Meals can be enjoyed in communal spaces or private villa settings, paired with wine selections from a climate-controlled wine cellar.
